The B Word is a remarkably efficient and flexible total cashflow solution. It's not a collection of budget tips, suggestions or advice. It's not about the internet, software, or new technology. It's about actually solving the problem, once and for all, and genuinely putting money management into the background of your life. It's about time, effort, efficiency and productivity (things I'm keenly aware of, practice daily, and masterful of). That's the ball and that's what you have to keep your eyes on when deciding on a budgeting solution. Why? Because managing your money will take the rest of your life. Assuming all budget products "work", The B Word will accomplish the task of money management in a fraction of the time of any other system.
Remember: the few, new activities you perform each month eliminate other, redundant, time consuming activities ten times over. When other systems promise "fast and easy" they are competing for the shortest investments of time in the red areas you see above. The B Word doesn't even add additional time and tasks to your busy life. To the contrary; it reduces nearly all your traditional money handling activities to nearly nothing. To get the job done, The B Word system uses a very simple (but very productive) software application, two checking accounts and one savings account. You'll find only two worksheets in the software: The Budget Worksheet, where you create an annual plan; and your Tracking Worksheet, which you use throughout the year to keep tabs on your expenses (but in a whole new way) . Using the Budget Worksheet, The B Word takes your estimated annual income and expenses, and calculates bimonthly averages (two times per month) for each of these. Much like the envelope method of budgeting, these averaged amounts are "contained" in your three accounts: your FIXED BLUE checking account, your FLEXIBLE RED checking account and your SAVINGS account (as further described on the left). After you've balanced your Budget Worksheet, you determine which two dates during the month are ideal for making your deposits and paying your expenses. You'll then preschedule all your bills and payment tasks into these two groups. These bimonthly dates are your Session dates. At each Session, you'll be sitting down and executing your plan: depositing, bill paying and documenting. These activities are called your Action Steps and take less than 30 minutes. Yes, you can use autodeposits, withdrawals, autopay, internet transfers and any new technologies you deem appropriate. Note that "bimonthly", as it's used here, is not the equivalent of "every two weeks". Every two weeks is a random time period and will put you at different monthly dates throughout the year. This is one of the variables we eliminate. It's important to note that each bimonthly Session is virtually the same every time you do it (very important). Also, each Session sets you up financially That means there is NOTHING to do in between your Sessions, so you can continue on with your "real life" while simply collecting your paychecks and bills as they arrive. There's no reason to run to the bank to make a deposit or even open a bill and worry if you're going to have the money to pay it. You've already calculated and prescheduled your deposits and payments in your plan. You've figured it all out ahead of time. RELAX. All your financial tasks will be performed at the next scheduled Session - and it again, sets you up financially until the next Session. SAME two dates per month (your choice). SAME Action Steps every Session (with minor variables that you'll already have accounted for). Just like you unconsciously put one foot in front of the other, these routine tasks begin to move to the background of your mind - and your life. And you're just not paying bills on time - The planning, organization, consolidation and the repetitive figures you'll be working with have taken what was endlessly chaotic, and will have made it elegantly simple and effortlessly manageable. And it does so regardless of external variables. After two or three Sessions, another very important part of this system will become evident. Because for the first time in your life, you really are in control, at each Session, you will easily recognize what you're doing that is complicating your cashflow...and you take steps to simplify it. You will find that you gain the rewards of the organizing efforts of your previous Sessions. At every succeeding Session, your tasks become more and more streamlined and efficient, taking you less and less time as you manipulate your cashflow into order (see chart above). In time you soon reach the point of total control with absolute minimal effort. You see, using the B Word, you'll find that money management doesn't become a second career or even a part time hobby...but instead, like walking, falls to the background of your mind and becomes totally inconspicuous in your life. Now that you understand the system a little better, here is What to Expect. |
